About us
Luray Zoo
is a true rescue zoo. The zoo specializes in providing
a home for unwanted, abused and confiscated exotic animals. The animals
that arrive at Luray Zoo stay here. They can have confidence that they
will not be traded, sold or bred to for sale. The zoo houses and cares
for over 250 animals all with their own special story.
This special little zoo is
operated by Mark Kilby and
Jennifer Westhoff. Mark and
Jennifer's mission was to create a rescue zoo. Unlike the huge problem
of unwanted domestic pets, over the years (60 years combined to be
exact) Mark and Jennifer found many exotic animals ended up unwanted and
a needed a place to go as well. The majority of large zoos, in many
cases, do not except exotic unwanted pets. Having a permanent home for
the animals is important to them as well, not to be just a temporary
summer attraction and then shipped off somewhere else. Luray Zoo's job
is to educate the public and provide a home for unwanted exotic animals.
